The Penguin English Dictionary

As most of you know I recently have a thing for languages. A couple years ago I was helping out at a bookstore and my Nephew dropped by with my brother. After browsing for a bit he came running to me and said "Uncle Sid will you buy me a Dictionary" I said of course and was impressed a boy that young would want a dictionary. I asked him which one. He took me to the Penguin English Dictionary. I was more impressed it is the Dictionary I use about 3 inches and has a retail price of $40. I asked him why that particular one. He looked at me as if I was some kind of idiot ( an accurate observation btw ) and said " Because I Want to learn how to speak Penguin "

He got the book.

  2. I have a strange memory Tracey. I can still recall all I was taught in school. That was back when dinosaurs walked the earth. Wish I could find my yearbook Mose's signature should be worth something by now.

  5. Yes Odette I am much better the headache etc turned out to be a series of migraines back to back so there was a bit of a cumulative effect.

I read a pocket dictionary several times over when learning Japanese. I also used to read the dictionary as a young man but many pages at a time. We used to play games with them on long trips in Cadets. Which explains why when an usual word comes up I can usually define it. I hear a lot of " How do you know all this stuff! "

As for the book(s) the one on Men will come out of my posts here gathered together and arranged. One on outdoor living and survival I want to spend some time with my brother and talk about it first as he has as much training in it as I do. More when it comes to the medical side.

Yes the ginger works for pain my migraines have been less severe since using it and it is very effective to take as a tea working about as well as ibuprofen. I do find you need to have some of it built up in your system to work so at least one cup of tea a day plus use it in cooking and after two weeks then it seems to be effective. It also gets more effective over time.

  6. That's a cute story. Children are so funny!
M son is constantl telling me definitions of words, and he thinks they are just hilarious. He's at the age of bathroom humor, and he and his friends always have some jokes ready to share.
